07 December: Formula 1 Testing - Jerez - Day 1 First day of testing at Jerez and Renault Test driver Franck Montagny set the fastest time of the day ahead of Marc Gene and Heikki Kovalainen. 8 teams and 15 drivers took part in the test today. BMW Sauber will join the test tomorrow. Toro Rosso is the only team not present. Montagny's best time was a 1:19.468 running a restricted V10 engine while Gene in second set a 1:19.687 running a V8 engine. For reference, the fastest time in 2005 at Jerez was a 1:15.561 by Pedro de la Rosa in the McLaren MP4/20 Renault and Red Bull Racing ran restricted V10 engines, Ferrari and MF1 Racing had 1 car with a restricted V10 and another car with a V8. All other teams ran V8 engines. Narain Karthikeyan was on duty for Williams and set the 5th fastest time in the Interim V8. Despite the high number of participants, there were few on track incidents. Ferrari Test driver Luca Badoer went off the track while Ryan Briscoe's Toyota engine failed late in the session. Weather conditions were sunny and clear with air temperature reaching 18 degrees while track temperatures reached 25 degrees. Testing continues tomorrow.
