03 February: Formula 1 Testing - Valencia - Day 5

Fifth day of testing at Valencia with 5 teams present and 10 drivers setting lap times.

World Champion Fernando Alonso improved on the fastest time he set yesterday by nearly four tenths while Renault's test driver Heikki Kovalainen was second fastest ahead of Nico Rosberg.

Alonso's fastest time was a 1:10.552.
Both Renaults covered a massive number of laps with Kovalainen doing 163 laps while Alonso did 144 laps.

For reference, the fastest time set in 2005 was a 1:09.005 by Kimi Raikkonen in the MP4-20.

There were less red flags during the session compared to yesterday. Juan Pablo Montoya suffered an engine failure and just after it was replaced, the team discovered a hydraulic problem ending his running for the day. BMW Sauber test driver Robert Kubica had 2 problems with the interim C24B Sauber.

Weather conditions were sunny with air temperature reaching 19 degrees while track temperature reached 15 degrees.

4 teams conclude testing at Valencia while the BMW Sauber team remains at Valencia for a wet tyre test with Michelin.

Next F1 tests: Fiorano from Monday (Ferrari) and Jerez from Tuesday (all teams except Ferrari and Red Bull)

Next test at Valencia: 14 - 17 February
