11 March: Jerez Testing, Day 2 Franck Montagny,
R25-05, 92 laps Heikki Kovalainen, R24-08, 85 laps
The Mild Seven Renault F1 Team today concluded testing at Jerez in
southern Spain.
The circuit was wet during the morning following overnight rain, and the team therefore conducted limited
running. However, Kovalainen did run Michelin’s latest wet tyre, a product he had not tested so far.
The sun broke through
around lunchtime, which saw the circuit dry quickly and the team make good progress with its tyre development programmes, focusing
principally on Bahrain and longer-term development. Montagny primarily conducted performance runs, while Kovalainen concentrated on
endurance runs.
Chief Test Engineer Christian Silk commented: “We concluded our short session in Jerez with a
productive day’s work. As soon as the circuit had dried, we were able to run trouble-free and to take a good step forward with our
tyre development. We mainly looked at solutions for the coming races, and were once again pleased with the performance and promise
of the Michelin tyres.”
