26 April: Silverstone Test - Day 1 Three-day Silverstone test gets underway BMW WilliamsF1 Team drivers Mark Webber and Antonio Pizzonia were on duty at Silverstone today, as the BMW WilliamsF1 Team began its preparations for the forthcoming Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix, the Anglo-German partnership having sole use of the Northamptonshire circuit. Rain showers poured down throughout the day, with temperatures reaching just 8°C, which somewhat compromised the team's schedule. Mark and Antonio both focussed on set-ups as the BMW WilliamsF1 Team hasn't visited Silverstone for some time. The Australian completed 69 laps, setting a best time of 1:23.901 minutes, while Antonio completed 42 laps on his way to posting a best time of 1:24.903. Tomorrow, Nico Rosberg will join Mark and Antonio. Tim Newton (Test Team Manager, WilliamsF1): "The predicted wet weather front arrived slightly earlier than we thought it would this morning but we still managed to get a few hours of dry running. This afternoon’s session, however, was severely hampered by heavy rain showers. During the time we had on track, Mark and Antonio concentrated on wet tyre testing, set-up work and systems checks. The front seems to be moving fairly quickly so we will hopefully be able to get a dry days’ running tomorrow.“ Pos Driver Team Time Latest Formula 1 News from Williams BMW: Williams confirm Wurz and Rosberg for 2007 (02/08/2006) More news from BMW Williams F1
