Nov.16 (GMM) It made international headlines, but the listing of Michael Schumacher's title-winning 1994 Benetton F1 car on eBay may have been a hoax.
The online auction, offering the actual car that collided with the German driver's championship rival Damon Hill in the Adelaide season finale, attracted bids in excess of 2.6 million euros.The auction was not due to end until Monday, but the web page has now disappeared. Switzerland's Motorsport Aktuell said it believes the sale of the B194 was not genuine.Another 1994 Schumacher/Benetton, this time claiming the car is located in England rather than Canada, has been listed for auction at eBay with bids starting at 1.15m pounds sterling.
