May 23 (GMM) Bernie Ecclestone on Saturday played down speculation that this weekend's famous Monaco grand prix could be one of the last in the Principality.
Recent reports suggested that race promoter Michel Boeri would not seek an extension to the current contract should Ferrari follow through its threat to quit the sport.But F1 chief executive Ecclestone said: "Monaco is a fixture on the F1 calendar and always will be if I have any say in the matter."The prestigious Monaco grand prix was first run in 1929.Ecclestone also seemed to warn F1's teams against considering a 'breakaway' championship, after it emerged that the company he oversees has higher revenue per employee than any other in the UK."I can't imagine anyone commercialising a sport from scratch again as I did with F1," he is quoted as saying by Formula Money.
