Jul.12 (GMM) Nurburgring winner Mark Webber on Sunday said he believes his penalty for "causing a collision" before the first corner was not deserved.
Stewards ordered the Australian, who nonetheless went on to win the German grand prix, to drive through the pitlane after they deemed he unnecessarily crashed into the sidepod of Rubens Barrichello. Some commentators agreed that the 32-year-old's driving seemed overly aggressive, but Webber said he thought the penalty "was a little bit harsh"."It is not really my style," he added, arguing that he was not aware the Brawn was alongside when he jinked to the right."I moved across and then what made it worse was that I shitted myself and came back across again and I thought 'my God, there he is'," Webber explained."That's what made it look maybe a little bit worse than it was," said the Red Bull driver, who also tapped and punctured the rear tyre of Lewis Hamilton's car at the first corner.Webber said he was "shattered" when he heard about the penalty and nearly incurred another penalty for speeding in the pitlane "as I was quite frustrated"."In the end it turned out okay but it could have been a different story," he added.
