Mar.28 (GMM) Nigel Mansell on Saturday threw his weight behind the 'diffuser 3' teams.
The 1992 world champion told Talksport radio that he does not agree with big teams including BMW, Red Bull, Ferrari and Renault that the accused trio need to scrap their clever rear diffuser designs."The biggest problem they (the protesting teams) have is that they didn't think about it," Mansell said.Mansell won his drivers' title for Williams, and the diffuser issue has coincided with the Grove based team - as well as Toyota and Brawn - leaping into contention in Australia."The others have been caught with their pants down and they don't like it," he said."It's all credit to the officials for saying that those cars are within the regulations and they cannot see anything wrong with them."The case has been referred to the FIA's International Court of Appeal, with a Paris hearing scheduled before the Chinese grand prix next month.Mansell said: "If one of those cars wins (in Australia or Malaysia) and the appeals are upheld then they will lose the race and that will be a terrible start for what should be a fantastic year ahead."
