08 May: Spanish Grand Prix - Race Report - Sauber Weather: sunny and warm. Drivers Team SAUBER PETRONAS driver Felipe Massa was classified 11th in today's Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona. Unfortunately, Jacques Villeneuve had to retire on lap 52 and was not classified. Jacques Villeneuve: "Quite early on my engine began losing water and as it steadily got hotter I began losing power. The biggest problem was that I started with a lot of fuel intending to run longer, but just as I got to the point where my fuel load had gone down and I should have been able to start lapping quickly I got stuck in traffic, so we were unable to maximise our strategy. In the end the engine failed because of the water loss." Felipe Massa: "I think I drove a good race, but the pace was just too strong for us today. Everybody who finished in front of us was quicker. As for the problem at the end, I felt the left rear tyre deflate as I came through the last corner, so that was it. We discovered afterwards that the wheel rim had cracked, which let the air leak out." Peter Sauber (Team Principal): "After our strong showing in Imola we are obviously disappointed as we were expecting more here. But we look forward to the next race." 2005 Spanish Grand Prix - Main Page Sunday Qualifying Weather: sunny and warm. Drivers Team SAUBER PETRONAS drivers Felipe Massa and Jacques Villeneuve will start today's Spanish Grand Prix from 10th and 12th positions respectively after this morning's final qualifying session. Jacques Villeneuve: "After yesterday's bad qualifying it was important to feel the car out for the race during final qualifying. It was just a safe lap, really, because we couldn't overtake anyone or be overtaken by anyone. The car was quite good, so I think we should be okay for the race." Felipe Massa: "Well, I'm in the top 10 as we had hoped. It was a good lap, quicker than David but not quite enough overall to move me ahead of him. The car felt nice and stable even with race fuel aboard, so we have a decent race set-up. I hope I can make a good start and maybe make up a position or two, but in any case I can fight for more points this afternoon." 2005 Spanish Grand Prix - Main Page Latest Formula 1 News from Sauber: Brazil - Friday Practice (23/09/2005)Belgium - Race (11/09/2005) Belgium - Qualifying (10/09/2005) Belgium - Friday Practice (09/09/2005) Italy - Race (04/09/2005) Italy - Qualifying (03/09/2005) More news from Sauber F1
