24 April: San Marino Grand Prix - Race Report - Toyota Panasonic Toyota Racing kept up its points-scoring start to the season at today's San Marino Grand Prix as Jarno Trulli claimed a hard-fought 7th place and Ralf Schumacher finished 8th. The team could not quite repeat the podium heroics of the last two races, but it remains in second place in the constructors' championship with 28 points. Two for my baby Jarno Trulli (Car 16, Chassis
TF105/02) "This was always going to be the hardest race of the year for Toyota, so the fact that we took home three points between us makes it a good day. I changed my set-up just before qualifying and I ended up suffering from oversteer late on, but we've limited the damage. I gave everything I had and kept fighting to the end and we took 7th place. When my new son Enzo arrived last week I felt determined to bring something home for him. It's not a trophy this time, but two points are enough for now!" And one more for the road Ralf Schumacher (Car 17, Chassis TF105/04) "To finish with both cars in the points here is a good result at this circuit which was always going to be a difficult one for us. I had no real problems other than the odd balance issue on one set of tyres and the guys did a great job for me - especially at the second pitstop. The eighth place arrived because we had such a perfect pitstop and we were able to catch the Williams in the pits. So a big thanks to all the guys and it's great that we can stay in second place in the constructors' championship." Three points
earned Tsutomu Tomita - Team Principal "We always knew this would be one of the worst circuits of the year for us, so the team did an excellent job to finish with two cars in the points. Jarno had a very difficult race, struggling with oversteer and lack of traction, so he did well to hold his position as well as he did during the pitstops. Ralf had a poor start which compromised his race and meant he was always in traffic. But he also did a good job and excellent pitstop work from the team meant he was able to get past both Williams cars at the second stop. I'd also like to congratulate Luca Marmorini and his engine team for getting both engines to the finish again after a tough race in Bahrain. Overall, to come away with second place in the championship without losing too much ground to the teams behind us is a good result. Now we must work hard to build on this performance over the next few races." related: Toyota appeal Ralf's penalty 2005 San Marino Grand Prix - Main Page Sunday Qualifying After rain this morning, the second qualifying session was held on an Imola track that improved with every run. But clean laps from both Panasonic Toyota Racing drivers mean Jarno Trulli and Ralf Schumacher will line up in 5th and 10th respectively for the San Marino Grand Prix. With the weather still unpredictable there is a lot to play for this afternoon. Daddy
Cool Jarno
Trulli (Car 16, Chassis TF105/02) "I never expected to be so high up in qualifying here, so this is a good result. I thought it would have been more difficult this morning on old tyres, but instead I was happy with the balance of the car and I did a good lap time. The race could still be difficult because we'll have to see how well we can keep our pace up over longer distances. The weather could yet play a part too but I will be doing my best to take another points finish." Into the top ten Ralf Schumacher (Car 17, Chassis TF105/04) "It was another clean lap for me, with no real problems, but the conditions were such that everyone was going to go quicker with each run. But that's the way it is so we have to make the best of it. Looking ahead to this afternoon the race might start off quite boring because it's so difficult to overtake here, but we could have some racing towards the end. One way or another we hope we can come away with more points." Moving on up Mike Gascoyne - Technical Director Chassis "That was quite a satisfying qualifying session for us. It was always going to be difficult to pick up places with the track improving throughout the session because it meant that the cars who went after you were going to have a better track. So I think we can be very satisfied with 5th and 10th on the grid. Our weather forecast is predicting probably no more rain, but we'll have to see. Either way I'm sure we can have a strong race and get both cars in the points." 2005 San Marino Grand Prix - Main Page Latest Formula 1 News from Toyota: Trulli extends contract with Toyota (28/07/2006)Toyota to supply Williams with engines (27/07/2006) Barcelona Test Update (25/01/2006) Jerez Test Update (19/01/2006) Jerez Test Update (18/01/2006) Jerez Test Update (17/01/2006) Panasonic Toyota Racing kick-starts 2006 on home ground (14/01/2006) Toyota TF106 Technical Specifications (14/01/2006) Luca Marmorini Q & A (Engine) (14/01/2006) Mike Gascoyne Q & A (Chassis) (14/01/2006) More news from Toyota F1
