18 February: Christian Klien to race alongside David Coulthard in Melbourne Two weeks before the beginning of the 2005 Formula One season, Red Bull Racing confirms that Austrian Christian Klien will partner David Coulthard at the Australian Grand Prix. The 22-year-old Austrian completed his debut season with Jaguar in 2004 scoring 6 points. Reigning F3000 Champion, Vitantonio Liuzzi (24) will fulfil 3rd Driver testing duties. The decision was made following the conclusion of the team’s intensive testing program, which took place during the past few weeks and will be reviewed on an on going basis. Sporting Director Christian Horner: “Fortunately we are in the position of having in the team two exceptionally talented young drivers, who have both impressed the team during pre season testing. I’ve been extremely pleased with Christian’s and Tonio’s development during the past few weeks, as well as by their professionalism and sportsmanship.” Christian Klien: "I’m very proud to have the privilege of starting for Red Bull racing at their first race in Melbourne. I’m all the more honoured that the decision has been made in my favour – it’s got me even more motivated." Tonio Liuzzi: "I extend my congratulations to Christian, but I’ll obviously be trying to get an opportunity to race myself as soon as possible. It’s great to be with Red Bull Racing, Team spirit is excellent, and both Christian and I are benefiting enormously from being able to work with David Coulthard."
